2019 National Principals Month
Every day, the leadership and hard work of principals advances the success of schools, educators, and students nationwide. That is why the West Virginia Association of Elementary/Middle School Principals (WVAEMSP), along with the other national and State organizations celebrate October 2018 as National Principals Month.
National Principals Month is a time to spotlight the crucial role principals play in school and student success. To properly celebrate principals and highlight their leadership in both schools and communities, we have planned several activities:
- National Distinguished Principals Program: WV Distinguished Principals Cathi Bradley of Kanawha City Elementary in Kanawha County and Renee Warner of Buckhannon-Upshur Middle in Upshur County will be honored along with 61 principals from across the nation during a two day event in Washington, D.C on October 11-12th.
- #ThankAPrincipal: Students, teachers, and principals can share their school’s celebrations by posting on social media with #ThankAPrincipal. Join in! Access the NAESP social media toolkit for sample posts you can use.
- E-cards: Students, parents, and staff can send special e-cards to their principal. Go to: http://principalsmonth.org/ecards/
- Shadowing Day Visits: We encourage principals to take this opportunity to ask one of their members of Congress or the West Virginia legislature to shadow them for a day, so they can experience firsthand the responsibilities of exemplary principals.
Action Alerts: In addition to shadowing visits, principals can visit NAESP’s Legislative Action Center to find legislators and send them an action alert email regarding current issues important to school leaders.
In honor of National Principals Month, let’s honor those whose job combines heroism, courage and vision on a daily basis. We join the voices of schools, students, and communities everywhere to say Thank You to the nation’s school leaders and their commitment to education.
